Frequently Asked Questions
Lady Vanda Orchids
Questions, answered
Answers to what growers ask us most. If your question isn't here, email orchids@ladyvanda.com — a real grower reads it.
Shipping & Delivery
How long will my order take to ship?
Orders are processed within 5–7 days of the order date. We pack and ship on Mondays and Tuesdays only, so that no orchid sits in a non-temperature-controlled facility over a weekend. Every order leaves our nursery in Ocala, Florida.
What carrier do you use?
Orders ship UPS Ground unless you select a different method at checkout. In hot or cold weather we recommend choosing expedited shipping — transit time is the single biggest source of stress on a shipped orchid. If you overpay on shipping, we refund the difference before your order goes out.
Is shipping free?
Shipping is free on orders of $99 or more, including pre-orders. Orders under $99 pay the shipping rate shown at checkout. When temperatures are below 50°F, we add a 72-hour heat pack at no extra cost.
Do you ship in cold weather?
Yes, whenever it's safe for the plant. We ship when temperatures are 40°F or above.
When temperatures fall below 50°F, every order ships with a 72-hour heat pack, free of charge, and needs to arrive within 1–3 days. If your standard transit time is longer than 3 days, please upgrade to expedited shipping at checkout so your orchid arrives while the heat pack is still working.
When temperatures drop below 40°F, we hold orders until the weather warms, usually for a stretch between December and February.
What happens if a holiday falls in my shipping window?
We hold the order until after the holiday. Carriers pause operations on holidays, and a package left at a delivery station across a long weekend is the most common way a healthy plant arrives damaged. We would rather your orchid ship late than sit in an unheated warehouse.
Do you offer local delivery?
Yes, within a set radius of Ocala, Florida. Processing times are the same as carrier shipping, but your orchids are prepared and hand delivered rather than boxed.
Pre-Orders
How do pre-orders work?
Pre-orders let you reserve plants before they're ready to ship. Our current window is open September 28 – October 4, 2026, for Catasetinae from our exclusive partner Jumbo Orchids of Taiwan, and for Mokara orchids.
Payment is taken at checkout, and pre-orders ship by October 26, 2026. Catasetinae ship in their dormancy phase with no blooms, their natural rest period (see our Catasetum Orchid Care guide for what to expect).
Prefer to skip shipping? Choose pickup at the Delray Beach Orchid Society Show, October 24–25, 2026.
Order Cancellations
Can I cancel my order?
Yes — anytime before your order has been processed and shipped. A 3.5% fee applies to cancellations.
For example: on a $100 order cancelled before shipping, we refund $100 − 3.5% = $96.50.
Email orchids@ladyvanda.com as soon as you know. Once a plant is packed and on a truck, we can no longer cancel it.
Arrival & Guarantee
Do you guarantee live arrival?
Yes. Lady Vanda Orchids provides a live arrival guarantee on every orchid order. Inspect your plants as soon as they arrive and contact us within 24 hours of delivery if anything is wrong — damaged, dead, or the wrong plant. We may ask for photos of the packaging, plant and its tag to process the claim.
My orchid arrived with some leaf loss. Is that normal?
Some leaf loss and dehydration is expected when shipping orchids, especially bare-root plants in summer or winter. A plant that looks tired on arrival is usually fine once it rehydrates. If you are unsure whether what you're seeing is normal stress or real damage, send us a photo within the 24-hour window.
Returns & Exchanges
What can't be returned?
Sale items and gift cards are non-returnable, including orders where the entire order is discounted. We also do not provide exchanges once an item has shipped.
What if I buy an orchid I don't know how to grow?
Ask us first — that's what we're here for. We answer culture questions before or at the time of purchase and will send growing information with your order. We can't accept a return simply because a plant turned out to need conditions you can't provide, so it's worth a two-minute email before you order.
If you'd like to read up first, start with our Orchid Care blog — it covers watering, light, and feeding genus by genus.
Our Orchids
Where do your orchids come from?
Our orchids are nursery-raised and ethically sourced — never wild-collected. Plants come from our own greenhouse in Ocala, Florida and from licensed partner nurseries we work with directly.
What genera do you sell?
Lady Vanda Orchids specializes in eight genera: Vanda, Cattleya, Paphiopedilum, Phragmipedium, Bulbophyllum, Catasetum and its relatives, Dendrobium, and the Oncidium alliance, alongside miniature and species orchids.
Growing & Care
How do I water, feed, and light my new orchid?
Culture questions — watering, light, fertilizer, potting, reblooming — are answered genus by genus on our Orchid Care blog, because the honest answer for a Vanda is nothing like the answer for a Paphiopedilum.
Start with Welcome to The Orchid Journal, then find the guide for your plant. If you can't find yours, email us and we'll point you to the right one.
I just received my Vanda. What do I do first?
Rehydrate it, give it bright light, and hold off on fertilizer for the first week. The full routine — how often, how long, and what to watch for — is in Vanda Care Basics: Watering and Vanda Care Basics: Food + Light.
