Commonly referred to as the Foxtail orchid due to its long pendulous inflorescence. Highly fragrant and a real treat when they are in bloom! Rhy. retusa is widely used in many breeding programs to cross for fragrance, color, pattern and densely packed inflorescences. Many awarded specimens are 10+ years old and will bloom with multiple spikes at a time. These spikes can then bloom, producing 100+ flowers EACH for a seasonal show! Just check out some photos below of some of our previously bloomed plants.
Can be potted in a very chunky and well draining bark/charcoal mix. Many find that this helps to increase root production and growth, however with 2x daily watering and heavy light filtering we have achieved very healthy root growth and no loss of lower leaves. Protect from the cold as lower leaves start to yellow and drop when temps fall below 60F.
