    Shipping Info

Free shipping on orders of $99+ within the US, including pre-orders. Orders under $99 are calculated at checkout based on size, quantity and destination.

    When will it ship?
Live plants ship on Mondays and Tuesdays only, so they never sit in a carrier facility over the weekend. Supplies and pottery ship within 5–7 days; if they’re in the same order as a plant, everything ships together on Monday or Tuesday.

    Cold-weather shipping
We only ship live plants when temperatures are 40°F or above. Below 50°F we include a free 72-hour heat pack and ship to arrive within 1–3 days; addresses that need more than 3 days in transit require an expedited upgrade. In the coldest months plant shipments may pause until it warms up.

    Ionopsis utricularioides

    Product Details

Ionopsis utricularioides, the twig orchid, is a secret agent of the orchid world. Its plain little fan of leaves and wiry, twig-like spike look like nothing — until one morning it erupts into a cloud of dozens of lavender flowers with broad, lobed lips. These sell out at every show, and most visitors have never seen one before.

Native from Florida and the Caribbean through Central and South America, it grows as a twig epiphyte on branches, often above water, where humidity is high but roots dry fast. Grow bare-root on a mount or in a small basket, water daily, and keep it out of harsh direct sun. Fertilizer is optional.

Blooming size — photos are representative of the plant size and maturity available. Compact plants in 3–4" baskets or on plastic slabs.
