Paphiopedilum fairrieanum is often thought of as a species that cannot handle Florida temperatures. However we have had great success with this species by keeping it in a moisture retentive mix of medium size Bark and sponge rock, with near daily watering. Take care to not fill the crown with water but ensuring the root system remains damp. We also keep it in slightly lower light levels away from the outside edges of our growing areas so the leaves or containers are not able to heat up in summer temps. fairrieanum is a stunning species and can grow quite vigorously with proper care.
