The Story Behind the Name
From a grandmother's
garden to yours
Lady Vanda Orchids was founded by Serena Roman and Ernesto Cabezas, a Florida-based husband and wife duo whose business was born from something deeply personal — a childhood memory and a nickname that stuck for decades.
For Serena, the love of orchids started young. Her grandmother kept a beautiful Phalaenopsis collection — Serena's first introduction to orchid growing, as it is for so many hobbyists. As she mastered their cultivation, she found herself drawn deeper into the world of orchids, captivated above all by Vandas. With the affection only a grandmother can give, she nicknamed her "Señorita Vanda."
"With the encouragement of her husband, that nickname became the foundation of something real."
— The origin of Lady Vanda Orchids
Decades later, Lady Vanda Orchids took root in Homestead, Florida — the heart of the American orchid-growing region. Since 2020, they've shipped some of the finest orchids in the country to hobbyists and collectors across the United States. In 2024, Serena and Ernesto made the move to Ocala, Florida, where Lady Vanda Orchids continues to grow — now rooted in the rolling hills and rich growing culture of Central Florida. As a fully licensed nursery and the only licensed orchid nursery in Marion County, Lady Vanda Orchids is proud to serve both the local community and collectors nationwide.
